I’ve been sewing and making stuff for ever since I can remember now. The first time I made something was when I was about 11 and my raincoat was being discarded for a new one. I cut off one of its sleeves and fashioned a waterproof cover for my colour pencils from it. I’ll leave out all the gory details but let me just say my mother was both amazed and amused. She can’t sew to save her life, hence the amazement.
Anyway, that was just the start and I’ve made a lot more things since. In my teens, I taught myself to crochet from a fantastic magazine my mother got me to subscribe to, but didn’t really make anything useful. It was only later when one of my friends taught me to knit that I got hooked. Now I simply love yarn and my stash only grows and grows.
Although life often gets in the way, I do my best to take time out for these things (much to the exasperation of my family sometimes). For me, the happiness that comes with shaping something with my hands is supreme. This is an adventure I embarked on a long time ago and one that still holds much promise for me. This is why I’ve decided to share it with you. Won’t you join me?
