I confess to being the sort that wants to sew (or crochet) covers for any gadget I set my eyes upon, especially the small and delicate types. But when the first touchscreen device came home, I was quite simply overcome by this urge to make it something soft and cozy. The result is not really what I had in mind, but there’s only so much you can do when you’re making things for a guy, limited as you are by colour and design options.
What I did first was to make a cozy little flannel pouch to hold the device close. I flanked this with a thin layer of foam to cushion the phone and finished it off with navy-coloured cotton fabric. A canvas-lined, stiff flap and two small bits of Velcro and I was done.
The easiest part of the project was the quilting. The difficult part was getting the inner and outer pouch to perfectly line each other. And I’m not at all crazy about the flap and the Velcro finishing (especially given how the white Velcro stands out starkly against the navy background) but they were made to suit the user’s tastes! I mean, he wanted Velcro, but I only had it in white and he couldn’t wait for me to come up with anything else, so…
Still, it’s a handy little pouch to carry your mobile around in and really quite easy to make.
